Resilience building is a transformative process of strengthening the capacity of people, communities, institutions, and countries to prevent, anticipate, absorb, respond to and recover from crises.
KAUST is looking for technology-based solutions that help build resilience in local ecosystems facing the raising challenges such as climate change, disasters, epidemics, food insecurity and environmental degradation.
The solution is expected to support the below
1. Digital, Connectivity & Cybersecurity
- 1.1 Provide reliable, accessible, and secured data collections and analytical systems capable to track or predict ecosystem conditions.
- 1.2 Improve connectivity and technology access in disadvantaged areas, in particular for women.

FAQ
Individuals or teams with a scientific, engineering or technical background from anywhere in the world can submit a solution. Individual or team members, please make sure that you are registered in our platform.
We will accept solutions that are "technology-based", at any stage of its development: concept, pilot, prototype, or fully operational.
A solution is technology-based solution is when it depends on the application of science and evidence-based knowledge. The solutions can be using apps, software, AI, robots, drones, blockchain, and virtual reality, or leveraging traditional and natural technologies and knowledge systems.
- Relevant: It is related to the topics listed in the challenge overview.
- Practical: It is realistic, technology based, supported by scientific evidence, and can be demonstrated.
- Valuable: The planned solution implementation has the potential to improve the ecosystem resilience or solve a defined problem.
- Novel: The solution is creative, different, or unique: It includes a new technology, a new application of technology.
- Inclusive: The solution demonstrates a positive impact on Women affected by the raising challenges in our ecosystems. Inclusion of Women is considered in the development and application of the solution.
5 solutions will be selected for the challenge, and invited to attend the WEP (Winter Enrichment Program), where 3 winners will be selected.
